We’re starting a new weekly series called Bonfire Buzz on the Small Business Bonfire blog. Every week, we’ll provide links to stories that we find interesting and related to a certain subject. This is a topic we’re discussing throughout the Bonfire, and this week it’s all about word of mouth.

The phrase Mouth 101 is a collection of phrases that people use to express themselves.

Tai Goodwin discussed phrase of mouth advertising and marketing with Dori DeCarlo, CEO of S1-Security First and host of Phrase of Mother on BlogTalkRadio and MomTV, on Melinda Emerson’s #SmallBizChat this week. It’s a must-read if you need a reminder of why you should bother with word of mouth in the first place and what it can accomplish for your business.

Let’s Gather a Crowd of Shoppers

I prefer word-of-mouth advertising and marketing because it’s free, simple, and effective. It involves no effort (except for performing a good job and establishing a solid reputation, of course). If you just go about your business, provide exceptional service, and delight your customers like no one else, you’ll almost certainly benefit from word of mouth. If you want to be a bit more proactive, here are a few ideas for increasing word of mouth advertising and marketing.

Additional information: Increase your customer base by using word-of-mouth advertising and marketing.
